Client: Sunderland City Council
Location: Sunderland
Contract Value: £0.33 million
Contract Period: April 2004 until July 2004
This project, for the City of Sunderland, was for the construction of a concrete multi bowl wheeled sports facility involving the use of sprayed and formed concrete techniques to provide finished surface levels for the elimination of standing surface water; a comprehensive drainage system to provide drainage over capacity, floodlighting to enable maximum utilisation and fencing to provide security; as well as soft landscaping to balance the extensive use of concrete and enhance the facility.
The site, selected by the end users living in the City Council Area, for this state of the art facility to be constructed was at Silksworth, adjacent to the City Council’s long established and well used dry ski slope.
The works were designed in consultation with the end users, and this consultation continued during the construction stage of the project to provide a facility that met the aspiration and served the needs of as many of the users as possible. The finished product has received critical acclaim from the skate-boarders and BMX users in the Region, and across the country, through its promotion on the City of Sunderland’s Web-site.
