Harewood Whin Integrated Waste Management Site

Client:
Yorwaste Ltd
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Contract Value: £0.25 million
Contract Period: March 2009 until May 2009

The works at Harewood Whin Integrated Waste Management Site was the first project undertaken for Yorwaste and involved working within a ‘live’ existing disposal site.

Works involved the construction of a new 3500m2 concrete slab, with 2000m3 of earthworks and the breaking out of an existing concrete wall.

Due to the site remaining ‘live’ and operational during our works, extensive pedestrian and vehicular segregation was required. An informal site meeting was held every Friday between our Site Agent and the Site Manager to inform of all activities for the following week. This included the proposed time of concrete pours and key times when additional plant or deliveries may have been brought to site. The co-ordination and segregation was required to allow the exiting site traffic, such as bin wagons, to carry out their daily activities unopposed. Progress meetings were also held on a weekly basis to ensure the progression of the programme was within time and budget.

To allow the construction of the new concrete slab relocation of existing services was required. This involved locating and exposing of services followed by concrete protection. We also undertook an extension of the existing drainage from the existing slab to past the newly constructed slab.
