The project consists of the construction of a road over rail bridge over Blyth and Tyne railway on the line of the Shiremoor Bypass Phase II. It is a 46m span weathering grade steel bridge which was fabricated off site and lifted in on railway possessions.
The works included site clearance, safety fencing, drainage and service ducts, earthworks, pavement construction, structural concrete deck on permanent formwork, waterproofing, parapets and utilities diversions.
Temporary works included sheet piled walls and it also involved significant embankment works rising to approximately 12m.
The works required consultation and close liaison with Network Rail regarding permits to work, track possessions, approvals and emergency procedures.
