Northumbrian Water Major Works Framework

Client:
Northumbrian Water Ltd (NWL)
Location: NWL Geographical boundary
Contract Value: £15 million per annum
Contract Period: April 2005 until April 2011

This framework commenced in April 2005, and has incorporated numerous individual projects ranging in value from £300k to circa £3m.  These projects are primarily from the Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) or flooding programmes, and are carried out by a discrete team within our business structure.

The projects range from simplistic new infrastructure in rural locations, to upgrading existing systems within busy urban environments.  The scope of works also varies from simple pipe upsizing, to large storage tanks constructed in both in-situ concrete (Ullswater Gardens) and preformed plastic pipe arrangements (Preston Village & Chester-le-Street). Also large diameter storage shafts constructed by both Caisson and underpinning (Whitley Bay & West Allotment) along with associated Mechanical and Electrical installations have all been carried out by our existing in-house resources.

Our in-house resources are fully conversant with the requirements of working in the public arena, and the inherent difficulties this brings, as well as managing the interface with the local Highways Authorities to ensure compliance with the recently revised Traffic Management Act (TMA) legislation, along with private landowners and any other stakeholders.  Due to our regional base and broad range of clients we have proven throughout the course of the framework that we have the flexibility to manage both upward and downward trends in work volumes.

During the course of the framework the dedicated team has gained experience in the requirements of NWL, not only with regards to construction standards, but also in the reporting and operating manual standards such as DRL, EPM and Extranet.

Resources have also been made available throughout the delivery period, for both negotiated and competitively tendered projects for Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) sessions and consultant buildability assistance.  This proves invaluable in ensuring projects can be delivered within tight physical and time constraints.

During the recent programme of competitively tendered projects, we have proven our competitive nature along with our commitment to deliver alternative cost effective proposals and engage in ECI without the guarantee of being awarded the specific project.
