Project Details
Working as a sub-contractor on a large scheme valued at over £350m it was integral that the clients management systems were embraced and the ethos to works were approached as not just being a sub-contractor but an essential part of the management structure, working with a friendly, proactive teamwork attitude helping the effective co-ordination of the works.

Due to the location and nature of the works Health & Safety is a key objective throughout the whole of the contract with an initiative of ‘Target Zero’ being implemented. This aimed for zero accidents, incidents and lost time. To embrace this approach the management and work force attend both monthly Safety Action Groups and Behavioral Based Safety Meetings. Communication lines are encouraged between management and work force to relay Health and Safety information, procedures and potential on site risk. To ensure the rules set by the Joint Venture (JV) are adhered to bi-weekly safety audits and inspections are carried out by ourselves with feedback being given to both management and staff and relayed to the client.

In order for our Health & Safety / Management systems to incorporate the Health & Safety procedures of the JV we have tailored and produced new documentation and where necessary safety documentation to satisfy the needs of the site. This was approved by our Health, Safety & Environmental Director and Project Director for the JV. Weekly management meetings are attended where safety procedures and techniques are shared between the client and other sub-contractors.

During the weekly and monthly Management Meetings reports are given detailing progress of the program and quality. Throughout these meetings our management team were key in assisting in forecast outputs and programme periods for drainage activities, leading to Section 1 of the works being handed over 6 weeks ahead of the initial program. By being suggestive and pro-active in ideas gathered from our Companies vast experience in the drainage field we were able to help advise cost saving benefits to the client through efficient works methods.

Process improvement systems have been implemented to monitor efficiency throughout each element of works, from this Lumsden & Carroll were selected as a benchmark for other drainage sub-contractors undertaking works throughout the scheme.
